Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has opened up about the experience of becoming the youngest artiste to win the prestigious Artiste of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards.
The award adds to the growing list of achievements for the musician, who has established himself as one of Ghana’s prominent contemporary music acts.
Speaking on Brunch in the Citi on Thursday, September 24, with host Naa Oyoe Quartey, Black Sherif reflected on what it means to receive one of the biggest honours in Ghana’s music industry.
According to the musician, winning the award comes with a strong sense of accomplishment, particularly because of his age at the time of receiving the honour.
He explained, however, that the excitement surrounding the award is strongest during the ceremony and gradually fades once the event is over and normal life resumes.
“It feels good to be the youngest Artiste of the Year. The feeling is fulfilling. The euphoria peaks on the awards night and it is just a normal day after the night,” Black Sherif said.
He added: “When you wake up, the euphoria is gone and what is left is plaques.”
Black Sherif won his second Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year award on May 9, 2026, three years after claiming the same honour for the first time in 2023.
His latest victory further adds to his growing recognition within Ghana’s music industry.
The musician rose to mainstream prominence with his distinctive blend of hip-hop, Highlife and Afrobeats, building a strong following in Ghana and attracting international attention.
His breakthrough was driven by songs that resonated with young audiences while showcasing his distinctive vocal delivery and storytelling style.
Since entering the mainstream, Black Sherif has continued to expand his musical profile through major releases, performances and collaborations.
