Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has opened up about her love life, revealing that she is currently single while reflecting on a previous relationship and the difficult period that followed its end.
The singer made the revelation during an interview on Pulse One on One, where she spoke candidly about relationships, heartbreak and the challenges of finding love as a woman in the public eye.
Sista Afia described her relationship status as complicated but made it clear that she is not currently dating anyone.
“My own is just weird. It’s complicated. I don’t know, today I’m in love, tomorrow it’s just weird. It’s weird. But right now, I’m very single. There’s no ring on my hands. There’s no engagement whatsoever. So since there’s no ring, I’m happily single,” she said.
Sista Afia reflects on past relationship
The musician also reflected on a previous relationship, revealing that its end coincided with one of the most challenging periods of her life while she was living in the United Kingdom.
While staying in Reading, outside London, Sista Afia said she was studying nursing and working as a healthcare assistant when she went through a difficult period that eventually saw her living in her car.
Despite the painful circumstances surrounding the breakup, Sista Afia spoke positively about her former partner when asked whether she was grateful that the relationship had ended.
“Oh yes. Not my ex, he’s my sweet ex. I always say it was good that I met him. So yes,” she said.
Difficult chapter eventually led to music
Sista Afia explained that while she was living in her car, a friend offered her accommodation. That friend later became involved in managing her career alongside her husband, helping create a connection that eventually contributed to Sista Afia’s entry into the music industry.
She later met musician Bisa Kdei, who encouraged her to pursue music professionally after hearing her voice.
According to Sista Afia, Bisa Kdei wrote several songs for her, including “Are You Ready” and “Cro Corner.” The latter became her first release.
Her experience, therefore, represents a significant turning point in her journey, with a difficult period eventually becoming part of the story behind her transition into music.
Challenges of dating in the spotlight
Sista Afia also discussed the difficulties of finding love while working in the entertainment industry.
She said many men can be hesitant to approach women who are successful or constantly in the public eye.
The singer described being a woman in the music industry as both a “blessing and a curse,” highlighting the unique challenges that come with being highly visible.
For now, however, Sista Afia appears comfortable with her current relationship status.
With no engagement or current relationship to announce, the musician says she is happily single while continuing to focus on her music and other ventures.
