The curtains officially fell on the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards after an unforgettable night of music, performances, and celebrations at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
This year’s ceremony belonged largely to Black Sherif, who emerged as the biggest winner of the night after sweeping five major awards, including the highly coveted Artiste of the Year title.

The victory marks the second time the “Iron Boy” hitmaker has won the prestigious award after first claiming it in 2023.
Black Sherif’s dominance at the awards reflected what many fans and industry players described as one of the strongest musical years by any Ghanaian artiste in recent times.
His album Iron Boy won Album of the Year, while his emotionally driven song Sacrifice secured Songwriter of the Year and Afropop Song of the Year. He also picked up the Best Hip-Hop Song award with Where Dem Boys.
The rapper and singer has enjoyed tremendous success over the past year, both locally and internationally, with his music continuing to perform strongly across streaming platforms, charts, and live performances.
His consistency and ability to blend deep storytelling with commercial appeal have cemented his position as one of the leading voices in African music today.
Another artiste who had a memorable night was Medikal. The rapper walked away with four awards, reinforcing his place among Ghana’s top-performing acts. His hit collaboration Shoulder featuring Shatta Wale and Beeztrap KOTM became one of the biggest songs of the year and earned Best Collaboration of the Year as well as Most Popular Song of the Year.
Takoradi-born musician Kofi Kinaata also enjoyed a successful outing at the event. The celebrated songwriter won Highlife Artiste of the Year and Highlife Song of the Year with It Is Finished.
His ability to connect with audiences through relatable lyrics and socially conscious storytelling continues to make him one of Ghana’s most respected musicians.
The awards night also celebrated several other outstanding talents across different genres. Wendy Shay won Best AfroBeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, while Stonebwoy claimed Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

Gospel musician Diana Hamilton was crowned Gospel Artiste of the Year, while rising star Kojo Blak took home the Best New Artiste award after an impressive breakthrough year.
One of the emotional highlights of the evening came when legendary highlife icon Daddy Lumba received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his immense contribution to Ghanaian music over several decades.
