Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has revealed that efforts are underway to bring Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel to Ghana for a major event.

Speaking in an interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, published on June 7, the award-winning musician disclosed that discussions are ongoing behind the scenes with event promoters to make the highly anticipated visit a reality.

Responding to a question about whether he intends to bring Vybz Kartel to Ghana, Shatta Wale described the matter as the “million-dollar question” and explained that he is taking a patient approach.

According to the “On God” hitmaker, he does not want to place any pressure on the Jamaican dancehall legend following his release from prison. He believes Kartel deserves enough time to settle into his personal and professional life before committing to major international appearances.

“I’m working on it,” Shatta Wale said during the interview. “I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to take advantage of people. Since he came out of jail, I feel he had his own plans to work things out, so I’m just waiting for the right time.”

The musician further revealed that discussions with promoters are already in progress to ensure that any event involving Vybz Kartel in Ghana is properly structured and financially rewarding for the Jamaican star.

Shatta Wale stressed that he wants Kartel’s eventual visit to Ghana to be centred on business and performance rather than simply friendship or publicity.

The possibility of Vybz Kartel performing in Ghana has generated excitement among dancehall fans, especially given the strong influence the Jamaican artiste has had on Shatta Wale’s career and the wider African dancehall scene.

During the interview, Shatta Wale also spoke about the strength and loyalty of the Shatta Movement fanbase, comparing it to internationally recognised fan communities such as Beyoncé’s BeyHive and Wizkid’s FC.

He credited his longtime manager and media personality Sammy Flex for helping communicate his vision and decisions to supporters over the years.

According to him, Sammy Flex has played a key role in helping fans understand the direction of the Shatta Movement brand, particularly during moments when some of his decisions appeared controversial.

While no official date has been announced, Shatta Wale’s comments have raised hopes that Ghana could soon host one of the biggest dancehall events in recent years if negotiations with Vybz Kartel and promoters are successfully concluded.
