The 15th Ghana Movie Awards came to a glamorous close at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Monday, June 8, 2026, celebrating outstanding achievements in African cinema under the theme, “Rewarding African Excellence.”
The star-studded event brought together some of the biggest names in the film industry, including James Gardiner, Clemento Suarez, Akabenezer, Juliet Ibrahim, and Nigerian actor Deyemi Okanlawon, who joined fellow industry figures on the red carpet for a night of recognition and celebration.

The biggest winner of the evening was Sukura, which dominated several categories. The movie secured awards for Achievement in Production Design through Godwin Mensah, Best Cinematography through Kofi Asante, and shared the Make-up and Hairstyling award with Lidya Ashitey. The film capped off its successful night by winning the coveted Best Picture award.
Another standout production was Virgin of the Throne, which excelled in the African collaboration categories. Sydney Emade won Best Actress in an African Collaboration, while Deyemi Okanlawon was named Best Actor in an African Collaboration for his performance.
Acclaimed filmmaker Frank Rajah Arinze was honoured with the Best Film Director award, while Martha Ankomah earned Best Supporting Actress for her role in Virgin of the Throne.
Meanwhile, Juliet Ibrahim’s short film Behind a Lie won Best Short Movie, further cementing her influence within the industry.
Popular actor and filmmaker Kojo Nkansah Lilwin claimed the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his performance in Captain Traore. Veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare also received recognition, winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sukura.
The film King of Tema enjoyed success in technical categories, securing awards for Best Editing and Best Original Score.
One of the night’s most emotional moments came when Akabenezer, known off-screen as Ebenezer Akwesi Antwi, received the Outstanding Contribution to the Ghana Creative Industry award for his impact on the entertainment sector.

Businesswoman and media personality Zari Hassan was also honoured for her contribution to Africa’s Orange Economy, while Janet Ayensu of Sukura emerged as Discovery of the Year.
The event attracted several notable personalities, including Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Kwaku Manu and Daniel Etim Effiong, underscoring the growing collaboration between Ghanaian and Nigerian filmmakers.
With outstanding performances, memorable victories and a strong celebration of African storytelling, the 15th Ghana Movie Awards once again highlighted the growth and influence of the continent’s film industry.
