Shatta Wale Says He Retired From Music Three Years Ago

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has revealed that he quietly retired from music three years ago and is now concentrating fully on building his business empire.

The award-winning musician made the surprising disclosure during an interview with media personality Bola Ray on Thursday, May 28.

During the conversation, Bola Ray asked Shatta Wale whether he was financially stable enough to stop making music and still live comfortably.

“Are you good to say you can even retire now and you’ll be okay?” Bola Ray asked.

Responding confidently, Shatta Wale stated: “I retired three years ago.”

The statement appeared to surprise many fans, considering the musician still releases songs, performs at concerts and remains active in the entertainment industry.

However, Shatta Wale explained that his main focus has shifted away from music and toward business development and entrepreneurship.

According to him, he is currently investing his energy into ventures such as Hot Wave and Shaxi, his ride-hailing platform which has gained attention in Ghana’s transport sector.

“Yes, I’m doing business. Hot Wave, Shaxi,” he said.

The “On God” hitmaker further hinted at bigger international projects currently in development, revealing that he has established business connections in countries including China and Dubai.

“Something explosive is coming,” he disclosed.

Shatta Wale also revealed that his team recently launched a new online marketplace linked to Tuesday Market, describing it as one of the latest additions to his growing list of ventures.

“My app developers created an online marketplace for Tuesday Market. We launched it yesterday, and it’s beautiful,” he added.

Over the years, Shatta Wale has consistently spoken about the importance of financial independence and ownership beyond music. While many fans still view him primarily as a musician, the dancehall star appears determined to transition into becoming a full-time entrepreneur and businessman.

His comments have already sparked reactions on social media, with some fans praising his business mindset while others questioned whether he has truly stepped away from music entirely.

Despite claiming retirement, Shatta Wale continues to remain one of Ghana’s most influential and talked-about entertainers, both locally and internationally. His recent success at the 43rd International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA), where he won two awards, further highlights his continued dominance in the global dancehall scene.

With his latest remarks, Shatta Wale joins a growing number of entertainers using their fame and influence to expand into technology, transport, commerce and other business sectors beyond music.
