King Promise Says Awards Are Not His Music Motivation

Afropop star King Promise has made it clear that awards are not the driving force behind his music, emphasising that his focus remains on authenticity and meaningful creativity rather than industry recognition.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM on Wednesday, April 15, the reigning Artiste of the Year addressed questions surrounding his nominations at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

His comments come at a time when anticipation is building toward the 27th edition of the awards, with fans and industry observers closely monitoring nominees and potential winners.

When asked whether there were additional categories he had hoped to be nominated in, King Promise was candid in his response, explaining that he had not actively pursued nominations this time around.

According to him, his recent output did not position him as someone targeting awards.

“I hadn’t released anything so I wasn’t going for any nominations whatsoever,” he stated, referencing his involvement in collaborative works such as “No Issues” with Lasmid.

The artiste also addressed speculation about his relatively quiet period following his Artiste of the Year win.

Rather than a strategic pause, he revealed that the time has been spent working intensively on a new project, which he believes will speak for itself when released.

“Obviously, we’re working on this project that we have out now… but I’ve been working on something crazy as well that’s coming,” he disclosed, hinting at what fans can expect in the near future.

King Promise stressed that his approach to music is rooted in genuine expression rather than calculated efforts to win awards or dominate charts.

He suggested that while recognition is appreciated, it should not be the foundation of an artiste’s creative process.

“For me, music can be overly calculated. It has to come from somewhere that’s really special. I’m not making music for awards,” he explained.

“I appreciate the awards, I cherish them, but whatever comes for you to see me as worthy has to be special.”

His comments reflect a broader perspective on artistry, one that prioritises long-term impact and emotional connection over short-term accolades.

In an industry often driven by competition and recognition, his stance sets him apart as an artiste focused on substance and artistic integrity.

When further pressed on whether he would be satisfied if he never won the Artiste of the Year award again, King Promise responded with confidence and conviction.

“Oh, 10,000%,” he said, reinforcing his belief in his craft and his readiness to continue evolving regardless of external validation.

The interview has since sparked conversation among fans and music enthusiasts, with many praising his honesty and commitment to authentic music-making.

As he prepares to release new material, expectations are high that his upcoming project will further cement his position as one of Ghana’s leading musical talents.

Ultimately, King Promise’s message is clear: for him, music is not about trophies but about creating something meaningful that resonates deeply with listeners.
