Black Sherif Opens Up About the Deep Questions and Life Experiences Behind His Music

Fresh off his major triumph at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026, reigning Artiste of the Year Black Sherif has shared insight into the emotional depth and personal experiences that continue to shape his music and storytelling.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Monday, May 11, the award-winning artiste reflected on the meaning behind his lyrics and the mindset that drives his creative process.

During the conversation, media personality Cookie Tee observed how Black Sherif’s music has managed to resonate with a broad audience across different age groups and social backgrounds.

She noted that while many initially assumed his music would appeal mostly to young men, his songs have surprisingly connected deeply with people from all walks of life, including market women and older listeners.

Responding to the observation, the “Sacrifice” hitmaker explained that he intentionally ensures his music carries emotional and intellectual weight.

“I need the weight to be in the lyrics. I need it, because I’ll translate the weight as the substance, right?” he stated.

According to Black Sherif, music goes beyond entertainment for him. He believes songs should carry meaning, emotion, and lessons capable of touching people’s lives in a positive way.

The artiste further explained that he constantly works on improving himself mentally and emotionally so he can communicate genuine experiences through his music.

“I fight every day to kind of enrich myself so that I can speak something, speak life into people’s life,” he said.

Black Sherif also revealed that his habit of questioning life and society started from childhood, describing himself as someone who has always been naturally curious about everything around him.

“I was born with questions about everything. I don’t remember when in my life that I didn’t have questions about every institution that was inside,” he disclosed.

According to the musician, those unanswered questions eventually became part of his personality and artistic identity rather than something that frustrated him.

He explained that many of the themes explored in his songs are inspired by his observations, struggles, experiences, and reflections about life.

The award-winning musician admitted that success itself has brought a new set of questions and realities, including the pressure and harsh sides that come with fame.

However, he remains determined to channel those experiences into meaningful music that listeners can relate to.

“All of this success and its harsh sides all bring answers and more questions as well… I’m trying to do all of this and put out all my ideas and my thoughts and my answers out all in this one lifetime,” he added.

Black Sherif’s comments have resonated strongly with fans online, many of whom praised his honesty, introspection, and unique approach to songwriting.

Over the past few years, the artiste has built a reputation for creating emotionally charged music that speaks to ambition, pain, survival, spirituality, and the realities of youth life in Ghana and beyond.

His latest reflections further reinforce why many fans continue to connect deeply with his music and storytelling.
