Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has called for peace and unity within Ghana’s music industry, saying the long-standing rivalries among artistes have become unhealthy and damaging to the industry’s growth.

Speaking during an interview with the EIB Network on Thursday, May 28, Shatta Wale expressed concern about the tension and competition that continue to exist among some of Ghana’s top musicians.

According to him, excessive rivalry creates division, insecurity and an uncomfortable atmosphere within the entertainment space.

“Too much of the rivalry, too much tension, people feeling like they are not safe because it doesn’t make this thing healthy,” he said.

The award-winning musician particularly addressed his relationship with fellow dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, insisting that despite public perception and past controversies, he sees Stonebwoy as a brother rather than an enemy.

“Stonebwoy is like a brother to me. Same as Sarkodie. I’ve had issues with Sarkodie and now we’re talking,” he explained.

Over the years, the rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has dominated headlines in Ghana’s entertainment industry, with fans of both artistes often clashing on social media. Their tensions became one of the most talked-about issues in Ghanaian music, especially after the infamous incident at the 2019 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

However, Shatta Wale now says he has developed a different mindset and believes the time has come for Ghanaian artistes to support one another rather than constantly competing against each other.

According to him, collaboration and unity are essential if Ghana’s music industry wants to achieve greater international success.

The “Melissa” hitmaker revealed that he dreams of seeing Ghana’s top musicians travelling and performing together globally as one strong movement.

“Once upon a time, it should be me, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Medikal in a jet flying to go and do a show. It shouldn’t be only me,” he stated.

His comments have sparked reactions online, with many fans praising the musician for promoting peace and maturity within the industry. Others have also expressed hope that Ghanaian artistes can put aside personal differences and work together to push Ghanaian music onto the global stage.

Shatta Wale’s remarks come at a time when conversations around unity and collaboration within Ghana’s entertainment industry continue to grow, especially as Afrobeats and African music gain increasing international recognition.

Despite years of rivalry and controversy, the dancehall star appears focused on promoting togetherness and creating a healthier environment for artistes and industry players alike.
