South African coach Roger De Sá is set to arrive in Ghana to begin his role as assistant coach to Carlos Queiroz, as the Black Stars intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The global tournament is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With the competition drawing closer, Ghana is making strategic additions to its technical team in a bid to strengthen its chances of making a strong impression on the world stage.

Roger De Sá’s appointment reunites him with Carlos Queiroz, with whom he shares a long-standing professional relationship.

The two have previously worked together at the international level, notably with Egypt and Iran, building a solid coaching partnership over the years.

Their familiarity is expected to play a key role in ensuring a smooth transition and effective collaboration within the Ghana national team setup.

Speaking to KickOff, De Sá confirmed his imminent arrival in Accra, stating that he is ready to begin work immediately. He explained that the process leading to their appointment was swift, following the departure of the previous coach.

“I will fly out on Thursday to Accra to start working straight away,” he said. “I think when the previous coach left, the Ghana FA looked at Carlos Queiroz, and obviously it happened very quickly. Within four to five days, it was done.”

Despite his enthusiasm, De Sá acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead. One of the key concerns is the limited preparation time before crucial fixtures.

Additionally, the nature of modern international football means that many Ghanaian players are based in Europe and other parts of the world, making it difficult to assemble the full squad regularly.

He also pointed out the demanding travel schedules and the limited opportunities for friendly matches, which are essential for building team chemistry and testing tactical approaches.

These factors, he noted, will require careful planning and efficient management by the technical team.

De Sá is expected to play a crucial supporting role, assisting Queiroz in tactical planning, player assessment, and overall team development.

His experience at both club and international levels, including his time as head coach of Bidvest Wits, is seen as an added advantage for the Black Stars.

Ghana will be aiming to rediscover its strong presence on the global stage, particularly recalling its historic run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where the team reached the quarter-finals.

At the same time, there is a clear determination to improve on the team’s performance at the 2022 edition of the tournament.

With a renewed technical setup and a clear focus on preparation, the Black Stars will be hoping that the combination of experience and strategic planning can guide them to a successful campaign in 2026.
