Medeama SC Thrash Asante Kotoko 4-0 to Go Top Again

Medeama SC delivered a statement performance with a commanding 4-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in a one-sided matchday 29 clash in the Ghana Premier League at the TnA Stadium on Sunday.

The emphatic result sees the Mauve and Yellows surge back to the top of the league table with 53 points, underlining their title credentials with a dominant display.

From the opening whistle, Medeama SC showed intent and control, dictating the tempo and pressing high against a Kotoko side that struggled to find rhythm.

Their early pressure paid off in the 14th minute when Manuel Mantey’s effort took a decisive deflection, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and finding the back of the net to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Medeama continued to pile on the pressure, exploiting gaps in Kotoko’s defense with fluid attacking play.

Their persistence was rewarded again around the half-hour mark when Kelvin Obeng rose above his markers to powerfully head home a well-delivered free-kick from Fuzy Taylor, doubling the advantage and further asserting their dominance.

The Porcupine Warriors were left reeling, and Medeama capitalized ruthlessly. Just four minutes after the second goal, Obeng turned provider, delivering a precise cross to the far post where Salim Adams was perfectly positioned to tap in from close range, making it 3-0 before halftime.

The home side’s clinical finishing and cohesion left Kotoko with no answers as the game slipped out of their grasp before the break.

Medeama did not ease off in the second half, maintaining their intensity and composure. Their fourth goal effectively sealed the contest, completing a comprehensive victory that highlighted their attacking strength and defensive discipline.

The Tarkwa-based side looked sharp in every department, sending a strong message to their title rivals as the season approaches its climax.

For Asante Kotoko, the defeat marks another disappointing chapter in what has become a frustrating run of form.

The team struggled to cope with Medeama’s pace and organization, extending their winless streak and raising concerns as they look to regain consistency in the final stretch of the campaign.

With this crucial victory, Medeama SC not only reclaim top spot but also build significant momentum ahead of their upcoming MTN FA Cup semi-final clash against Dreams FC on Saturday, April 18.

Confidence will be high within the squad as they aim to compete on multiple fronts.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next league fixture against Hohoe United, hoping to bounce back and restore pride after a heavy defeat.

Medeama’s dominant performance serves as a clear warning to the rest of the league—the title race is heating up, and they are firmly in control of their destiny.
