Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has thrown his weight behind Wendy Shay in the race for Artiste of the Year at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026, describing a potential win for the singer as a “beautiful story” for Ghana’s music industry.
Rockstone made the remarks during an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, where he shared his thoughts on the competitive category.

According to him, while all the nominees have worked hard and deserve recognition, Wendy Shay’s journey and growth in the industry make her a compelling choice for the top award.
“I would be a beautiful story if Wendy picked it up. I am just saying even from the outlook. Of course, I would love for Medikal too because he put in a lot of work. But it will be beautiful [if Wendy wins]. It will make me smile really big,” he said.
The Artiste of the Year category at the TGMA is widely regarded as the most prestigious, recognising the musician with the highest impact, popularity, and audience appeal within the year under review.
This year’s category is particularly competitive, featuring a lineup of some of Ghana’s biggest music stars, including Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Medikal, and Wendy Shay.
A victory for Wendy Shay would mark her first time winning the ultimate award, further cementing her place among the top-tier artistes in the country. Medikal is also chasing his first Artiste of the Year title, while Black Sherif and Diana Hamilton each have one to their names. Stonebwoy and Sarkodie, on the other hand, are already multiple winners, with two titles each.
Rockstone’s endorsement has added another layer of excitement to the ongoing debate among fans and industry watchers, many of whom have been actively campaigning for their favourite artistes on social media.
Last year’s edition of the awards saw King Promise take home the Artiste of the Year award after a tightly contested race that generated significant buzz across the country.

The TGMA continues to play a vital role in celebrating excellence in Ghana’s music industry, providing a platform to honour artistes who have made significant contributions through hit songs, albums, and overall influence.
The 2026 ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9 at the The Palms Convention Centre, where industry players, fans, and stakeholders will gather for one of the most anticipated nights in Ghanaian entertainment.
As anticipation builds, the spotlight remains firmly on the Artiste of the Year category, with fans eager to see whether Wendy Shay can turn Rockstone’s endorsement into a historic win.
With strong competition and high expectations, the final outcome is expected to spark conversations long after the awards night, further highlighting the vibrancy and competitiveness of Ghana’s music scene.
