Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has made fresh remarks about fellow musician Stonebwoy, claiming the award-winning Afro-dancehall artiste once looked up to him during the early stages of his music career.
Speaking in a teaser for an upcoming episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, released on Monday, July 27, Shatta Wale reflected on his past relationship with Stonebwoy and how, according to him, things changed after the BHIM Nation president rose to prominence.
According to Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy regularly visited him when he was still an emerging artiste and even referred to him as “daddy.”
“Stonebwoy is my boy. Stonebwoy used to be with me. He used to come to the first room I rented. He used to call me daddy,” Shatta Wale said.
‘Fame changed everything’
The dancehall musician alleged that their relationship changed after Stonebwoy began gaining recognition in the Ghanaian music industry.
Shatta Wale claimed that media comparisons between them contributed to the shift, with some people suggesting Stonebwoy was the more talented artiste.
Despite his comments, Shatta Wale insisted he does not have any personal problem with Stonebwoy. However, he claimed Stonebwoy finds it difficult to face him because of the confidence he carries.
“I’m cool, but he can’t watch me. My spirit is too big for him. I’m too confident. I’m not the fake type,” he stated.
Comments on Stonebwoy’s character
Shatta Wale also criticised Stonebwoy’s approach to dealing with conflicts, alleging that the musician does not always stand by his words.
“He, with things he says, he doesn’t follow it. When we say we are coming to beat you, we are coming to beat you. We are not coming to play,” he said.
Samini mentioned
During the interview, Shatta Wale also spoke about Stonebwoy’s relationship with veteran reggae and dancehall artiste Samini.
He suggested that the relationship between the two musicians has changed over the years and claimed Stonebwoy does not want his former mentor to remain more influential than him.
“I’ve been telling people, sometimes when I see him, I feel bad because I feel like he hates Samini. He doesn’t want Samini to be bigger than him,” Shatta Wale alleged.
Long-running rivalry
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have maintained one of Ghana’s most talked-about rivalries over the years, with both artistes frequently exchanging comments through interviews, songs and social media.
Although there have been occasional attempts at reconciliation, tensions between the two camps have resurfaced several times, continuing to fuel debate among fans of Ghanaian dancehall music.
Stonebwoy has not publicly responded to Shatta Wale’s latest remarks at the time of publication.
