Former NPP Parliamentary Candidate Valentino Nortey Charged in US Stabbing Case

Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a Ghanaian political figure and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, has been detained in the United States and charged in connection with an alleged stabbing incident involving his wife in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

According to a report by abc27.com, the incident occurred on Saturday, 17 January 2026, along Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township at about 10:00 a.m. Police say a woman sustained stab wounds during what they described as a domestic dispute. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

The Lower Paxton Township Police confirmed on Monday that Nortey, aged 41 and a resident of Harrisburg, is facing several serious criminal charges. These include attempted homicide, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

In a statement, police indicated that emergency responders acted swiftly to secure the scene and attend to the victim.
“Upon arrival, first responders ensured the victim received immediate medical attention. Fortunately, there was no threat to the public at any point,” the police statement said.

Court documents show that Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. He is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for 26 January 2026.

The case has attracted considerable attention both in the United States and Ghana due to Nortey’s political background. In Ghana, Valentino Nortey is well known within NPP circles, particularly in the Greater Accra Region. He rose to prominence during the 2016 and 2020 election cycles, where he was viewed as one of the party’s emerging political figures.

Nortey eventually became the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the 2024 general elections, a seat he contested against Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was, however, defeated by the incumbent MP.

The Lower Paxton Township Police have stressed that investigations into the alleged stabbing are ongoing, and no further details have been released at this stage. Authorities have not commented on whether additional charges could be filed as the case progresses.

The incident has sparked public discussion due to Nortey’s dual profile as a Ghanaian political actor and a resident of the United States, highlighting how legal issues abroad can quickly take on international dimensions when public figures are involved.

As the legal process continues, all eyes will be on the upcoming preliminary hearing, which is expected to determine the next steps in what has become a closely watched case on both sides of the Atlantic.
