Ghana international Kwasi Sibo has completed a move to Libyan top-flight side Al-Swehly on a permanent deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Black Stars midfielder has signed a three-year contract with the Libyan club, with an option to extend the agreement for an additional year.
Kwesi Sibo joins Al-Swehly as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Spanish club Real Oviedo at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 28-year-old midfielder featured in Spain’s La Liga last season and was part of Real Oviedo’s squad before the club decided not to extend his contract.
His departure from Oviedo brought an end to his spell in Spanish football and opened the door for the midfielder to consider offers from several clubs across Europe and beyond.
Kwesi Sibo’s move to Libya comes after a proposed transfer to the Turkish top flight failed to materialise. The Ghanaian midfielder reportedly also turned down offers from clubs in France and Major League Soccer before settling on a move to Al-Swehly.
The financial details of the agreement have attracted attention, with reports suggesting that the deal could be worth as much as $10 million. The reported figure is also said to be connected to a broader government-backed initiative aimed at attracting more African football talent to the Libyan league.
Kwesi Sibo travelled to Cairo to complete the formalities of his transfer and sign his contract with Al-Swehly. He returned to Ghana on Tuesday after finalising the move ahead of the new Libyan season.

Sibo was part of the Black Stars squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.
