Frederick Kuma, popularly known as Abu Trica, has opened up about the emotional and psychological difficulties he experienced while in detention, revealing that there were moments he felt like crying and “going mad” during his time in custody.
Speaking in an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV on Wednesday, June 3, Abu Trica described the emotional distress and loneliness he endured while being held over allegations linked to fraud and extradition proceedings.

“I felt very bad. I sometimes felt like crying and going mad,” he said.
According to him, the conditions of his detention left him isolated for weeks, forcing him to spend long periods alone with his thoughts while insisting he was innocent of the accusations against him.
“I could be talking to myself because where the narcotics officers took me was a very lonely room that I was the only one occupying. For about a month, I was the only one there, knowing that I was innocent of all the accusations, so you can imagine what I was going through,” he recounted.
Abu Trica also disclosed that one of the most painful aspects of the experience was being separated from his family, especially his young son.
“Leaving my family and my four-year-old son, all because I was helping someone, was very difficult,” he lamented.
The businessman maintained throughout the interview that he had no involvement in fraudulent activities and insisted that people who know him personally, particularly in his hometown, could testify to his character.

His comments come amid ongoing extradition proceedings following his arrest in December 2025 over allegations connected to romance fraud and related cybercrime offences in the United States.
Weeks ago, the General Jurisdiction 2 Division of the High Court in Accra granted Abu Trica bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties while the legal process continues.
