Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revealed that she has frozen some of her eggs as she considers having more children in the future.
The award-winning singer, who is already a mother, disclosed that she decided to preserve some of her eggs to keep her options open when it comes to expanding her family.
Tiwa made the revelation in a video shared on social media, where she encouraged women to learn more about fertility preservation and consider egg freezing as an option.
According to the singer, fertility preservation became particularly important to her after witnessing two close friends experience different reproductive challenges.
Tiwa said she wants more children but has chosen to freeze some of her eggs as a way of preserving the possibility of having children later in life.
“I do want more kids, but I’ve frozen some of my eggs. I actually want to say I would advise women that once they hit 30 to do that,” she said.
The singer explained that she became more conscious of fertility after learning that women are born with a limited number of eggs and that reproductive options can change with age.
“A lot of people don’t know that we were born with a certain amount,” Tiwa said.
She also shared the experiences of two friends who influenced her thinking about egg freezing.
According to Tiwa, one of her friends decided to have children later but encountered difficulties conceiving. The experience, she said, left her friend wishing she had preserved her eggs earlier.
“I have two friends. One of them now wants to have kids and I think it didn’t work out. Now she wishes she had reserved and frozen her eggs,” she recounted.
Tiwa also spoke about another friend who had frozen her eggs before being diagnosed with cancer.
The friend later underwent chemotherapy, but because she had preserved her eggs beforehand, she retained an option for having children in the future.
“The other friend who had frozen her eggs and then she ended up finding out that she had cancer. She had to go through chemo, but thankfully, she had frozen her eggs. If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t be able to have kids,” Tiwa said.
While encouraging women to become more informed about fertility preservation, the singer also criticised the high cost associated with egg freezing.
She argued that the procedure should be made more affordable so that more women can access it if they choose to preserve their fertility.
“I hate that it’s so expensive and I don’t think it should be expensive. I think it should be affordable so that many women could afford it,” she added.
Tiwa Savage’s comments have sparked conversations about fertility preservation, reproductive choices and the financial barriers surrounding egg freezing.
Her disclosure also highlights the growing discussion among women about making informed decisions regarding family planning and preserving reproductive options for the future.
