Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has claimed that Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports owes him GH¢5 million for promotional work he undertook to support the Black Stars during the country’s World Cup campaign.
The artiste, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, made the claim during an interview with GHOne TV while discussing his assessment of ministers and government appointees under the current administration.
Shatta Wale said he supports President John Dramani Mahama’s ideology but expressed concerns about some of the President’s appointees, particularly over what he described as an outstanding payment from the Sports Ministry.
“I love President John Dramani Mahama’s ideology but not his appointees. I’m still owed GH¢5 million by the Sports Ministry for my promotions during the World Cup,” he said.
Shatta Wale Explains GH¢5m Claim
According to Shatta Wale, he fulfilled his side of an arrangement by using his platform, influence and reach to promote the Black Stars and rally public support for Ghana during the World Cup campaign.
The artiste has been a vocal supporter of the national team and has previously used his influence to encourage Ghanaians to support the Black Stars.
His latest claim, however, has raised questions about the nature of the alleged agreement with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the basis for the GH¢5 million payment.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has not publicly responded to the claim at the time of publication.
Shatta Wale’s Support for Black Stars
Shatta Wale has previously demonstrated his commitment to supporting Ghana’s national team.
In March 2026, he pledged $100,000 towards Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign during a fundraising event.
The pledge was part of efforts to mobilise support for the Black Stars as Ghana prepared for the global football tournament.
During the GHOne TV interview, Shatta Wale was asked about the status of the $100,000 donation.
In response, he said his Hotwav team had handled the matter and that he would check with them regarding the payment.
The artiste did not provide further details about the status of the donation during the interview.
Ministry Yet to Respond
Shatta Wale’s allegation remains a claim from the artiste, as the Ministry of Youth and Sports has yet to publicly address the matter or confirm whether any amount is owed to him.
The GH¢5 million claim is likely to attract attention given Shatta Wale’s prominent role in Ghana’s entertainment industry and his long-standing involvement in promoting the Black Stars.
Any response from the Ministry could provide further clarity on the alleged promotional arrangement, the services provided and whether there is an outstanding payment.
For now, Shatta Wale maintains that he is owed GH¢5 million for his promotional activities during the World Cup campaign.
