Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has responded to Sarkodie’s recent message to members of his SarkNation fanbase, questioning the principle behind the rapper’s advice on artiste rivalries and online fan battles.
Sarkodie, in a post shared on X on Monday, September 7, urged SarkNation members to concentrate on supporting and protecting his brand instead of attacking other artistes or getting involved in unnecessary fanbase wars.
The rapper also cautioned his supporters against tearing down other musicians to demonstrate their loyalty to him and encouraged them to ignore online provocations.
Stonebwoy has now offered his perspective, referencing a series of interactions between the two artistes following their respective international concerts.
Stonebwoy Recalls Conversations With Sarkodie
According to Stonebwoy, he reached out to Sarkodie after the rapper’s Rapperholic concert in the United Kingdom to congratulate him on the event.
He said the two musicians spoke for more than 10 minutes during the conversation.
Stonebwoy then referenced his own headline performance at OVO Wembley Arena, claiming that Sarkodie subsequently shared what he described as a “second video” on social media.
The dancehall artiste said the post prompted him to question the message Sarkodie was seeking to communicate.
Stonebwoy further explained that after making what he described as a factual post, he contacted Sarkodie again after noticing what he considered cryptic messages from the rapper.
According to Stonebwoy, Sarkodie returned his call and the two subsequently had a conversation lasting more than an hour.
Different Views on Artiste Conduct
Stonebwoy said their lengthy discussion covered various issues within the Ghanaian music industry, including artiste behaviour, relationships and their differing perspectives.
He claimed that during the conversation, Sarkodie expressed the view that artistes cannot be forced to follow particular principles and that musicians ultimately make decisions based on what benefits them.
Stonebwoy appeared to contrast that position with Sarkodie’s latest public advice to SarkNation.
Referencing the social media interactions and his conversation with Sarkodie, Stonebwoy wrote:
“Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”
His statement appears to question whether artistes can effectively advise their fanbases about appropriate conduct without consistently demonstrating the principles they advocate.
Debate Over Fanbase Rivalries
The exchange has added another dimension to the ongoing discussion surrounding fanbase rivalries in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
Online communities supporting major artistes frequently engage in heated exchanges, with disagreements sometimes extending beyond music into personal attacks and accusations.
Sarkodie’s original message focused on encouraging SarkNation members to avoid such behaviour and instead channel their energy towards promoting his music and protecting his brand.
Stonebwoy’s response, however, raises questions about the role of artistes in setting examples for their supporters and whether public advice should be backed by consistent personal principles.
The latest exchange has therefore shifted attention from the behaviour of fanbases to the responsibilities of the artistes themselves.
Neither artiste’s comments necessarily settle the wider debate, but the conversation highlights the influence Ghanaian musicians have over their respective fan communities and the importance of how they navigate disagreements both publicly and privately.
