Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has dismissed claims that the funeral and burial arrangements for the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka remain unresolved, insisting that the programme will begin as scheduled on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Her comments come after her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, Head of the Safo Family and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, stated during a press conference that disagreements over the funeral arrangements had not been resolved, making it impossible to confirm a burial date.
Funeral plans remain unchanged
Speaking on Angel FM, Adwoa Safo rejected suggestions that the funeral had been postponed or cancelled.
According to her, the funeral committee had already completed all necessary preparations after engaging key stakeholders, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
She also alleged that an earlier burial date scheduled for June 25 could not proceed because the Head of the Safo Family failed to carry out the arrangements, resulting in the funeral being rescheduled for the end of July.
Burial and thanksgiving schedule announced
Adwoa Safo outlined the official programme for the final funeral rites, urging the public to disregard reports suggesting the event had been cancelled.
According to her:
- July 30, 2026: Burial at Gomoa Mpota
- July 31, 2026: Funeral service at Independence Square in Accra
- August 8, 2026: Thanksgiving service at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region
She said:
“On the 30th of July, we will go to Gomoa Mpota to bury my late father. On the 31st of July, we will be at Independence Square to hold the funeral service. Then, on the 8th of August, we will travel to Asante Mampong in Kumasi for the thanksgiving service. So everyone should disregard the rumours that the funeral will not take place or that it has been cancelled.”
Recovery after shooting incident
During the interview, Adwoa Safo also disclosed that she has successfully undergone surgery after sustaining gunshot injuries during the coronation ceremony of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I.
Her latest remarks add another chapter to the ongoing public disagreement within the Safo family over the funeral arrangements for the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, as conflicting statements continue to emerge regarding the final rites of the renowned inventor and religious leader.
