Abu Trica has publicly reacted after being granted GH¢30 million bail in connection with an alleged $8 million romance scam investigation involving the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The businessman spoke out through social media after his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, claimed that his client had been “set up” by an FBI informant over an alleged $50,000 transaction.

The case has since sparked intense discussions online, with many Ghanaians debating the allegations and the involvement of foreign investigators in cybercrime-related cases involving Ghanaian nationals.

According to Barker-Vormawor, an FBI informant allegedly approached Abu Trica claiming he was expecting a transfer of $50,000 and needed assistance in finding a bank account for the transaction.

The lawyer argued that the alleged transaction later became the foundation for Abu Trica’s arrest before investigators allegedly expanded the case into a broader romance fraud investigation.

In posts shared online, Barker-Vormawor further alleged that United States authorities pressured his client to reveal the identities of individuals connected to bank accounts allegedly linked to the investigation.

He also claimed investigators warned Abu Trica that failure to cooperate could result in him being connected to a larger romance fraud case reportedly involving more than $8 million.

Abu Trica later reposted sections of his lawyer’s comments on Snapchat, indicating that he agreed with the claims being made about the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Part of the reposted statement read:

“Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying he was expecting $50,000 and that Abu Trica should help find a bank account for the money to be transferred into.”

Another excerpt added:

“This is the entire evidence the FBI provided. When Abu was arrested, the FBI asked him to disclose the owner of the account.”

The businessman also supported his lawyer’s criticism of what he described as an “inferiority complex” among some Ghanaians regarding foreign law enforcement agencies.

In another social media post, Abu Trica insisted that the FBI, like any investigative body, must prove its allegations in court.

“For those of you suffering from an inferiority complex, just know that the FBI is not God. Just like the Ghana Police, when they make an allegation, they must prove it. It doesn’t matter whether you see Abu Trica as a fraudster or not,” he wrote.

The ongoing case continues to attract widespread attention across social media platforms, with supporters and critics expressing mixed reactions over the allegations and the legal proceedings.

While some social media users have defended Abu Trica and questioned the handling of the investigation, others believe authorities should be allowed to fully investigate the claims before conclusions are drawn.

The case is expected to remain a major topic of discussion as legal proceedings continue and more details emerge regarding the allegations and the involvement of international investigators.
