Ghanaian rapper Medikal has expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), pointing to what he describes as a year of hard work, impact, and independence.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Wednesday, April 22, the rapper made it clear that he believes his achievements over the past year set him apart from the competition. According to him, consistency and influence remain key factors in determining who deserves the top award.

Reflecting on his journey, Medikal acknowledged that his career has not been without challenges. However, he emphasised that those moments have helped him grow and stay focused.
“Sometimes you need to fail to win. That failure shouldn’t break you as a human being. It never broke me, and I’m still here,” he said.
Beyond his personal success, Medikal also highlighted his efforts to support upcoming artistes. He explained that he often collaborates with young talents without charging them, despite the high value attached to his features.
“If you’re a young, upcoming artiste and you send me a song and want a verse and I do it for free for you, I’ve put you on,” he stated.
He added, “I don’t take less than GH¢100K for a verse, so if I do it for free, that’s real support.”
Medikal believes this kind of contribution to the industry should also be recognised, as it helps nurture new talent and grow the Ghanaian music scene.
Another major point he raised was his independence. The rapper stressed that he has built his brand and executed major projects without the backing of a record label. For him, this makes his achievements even more significant.
One of the highlights of his year, he noted, was his self-funded concert at the Accra Sports Stadium. The event attracted a large audience, with fans travelling from different parts of Ghana and even neighbouring countries like Togo and Nigeria.
“I’m an independent artiste, no label. One man,” he said. “Putting about GH¢3 million into a concert and having a sold-out show with people coming from across Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria—that’s not small.”

He also pointed to his music output, including singles and an album released within the year, as further proof of his dedication and consistency.
“After putting in so much work, dropping songs and an album, and doing a show single-handedly, that’s why this time I’m loud about it,” he explained.
As the TGMA draws closer, Medikal remains confident that his work, influence, and ability to succeed independently make him a strong contender for the Artiste of the Year award.
His comments have already sparked conversations among fans and industry watchers, adding more excitement to what is expected to be a competitive awards season.
