Guinness Ghana Boosts TGMA Album of the Year Prize

Guinness Ghana has announced a major boost to Ghana’s music industry with the introduction of an enhanced prize package for the Album/EP of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

The initiative, set to take effect from the 27th edition of the awards, marks a significant step toward supporting artistes beyond the recognition stage.

Under the new package, the winner of the Album/EP of the Year category will receive a GH¢100,000 cash prize, alongside additional support for the production of a music video for their next project.

The package also includes a curated album listening experience powered by Guinness Ghana, aimed at promoting the artiste’s work and strengthening audience engagement.

This move reflects Guinness Ghana’s continued commitment to investing in the creative sector and nurturing talent within the country’s music ecosystem.

By going beyond traditional award recognition, the company seeks to create lasting value for artistes and contribute to the long-term growth of the industry.

Speaking on the initiative, Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Head of Media and Partnerships at Guinness Ghana, highlighted the importance of the category in shaping the industry.

She described the Album/EP of the Year as the ultimate representation of artistic expression, encompassing storytelling, sound design, and the overall identity of an artiste.

According to her, the new prize package is not only about rewarding excellence but also about empowering artistes to continue creating impactful work.

The inclusion of a listening experience is particularly significant, as it offers a platform for deeper connection between artistes, fans, and industry stakeholders.

The announcement has been widely welcomed within the entertainment space, with Charterhouse, producers of the awards, praising the intervention.

Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it reinforces the value of albums and EPs as enduring creative works rather than just promotional tools.

The nominees for this year’s Album/EP of the Year category reflect the diversity and strength of Ghanaian music.

Artists such as Black Sherif with Iron Boy, Stonebwoy with Torcher, Gyakie with After Midnight, Medikal with Disturbation II, Wendy Shay with Ready, and Kweku Smoke with Walk With Me are all in contention for the prestigious award.

As anticipation builds for the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, this development adds an extra layer of excitement and significance to the ceremony.

It also signals a broader shift toward recognising and investing in the full creative process behind music production.

Ultimately, Guinness Ghana’s initiative is more than just a prize—it is a strategic investment in the future of Ghanaian music, one that could inspire greater creativity, innovation, and global competitiveness among artistes.
