Sarkodie Announces Long-Awaited Gospel Album Is Almost Ready

Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has revealed that his long-awaited gospel album is nearly complete and could be released soon.

The award-winning rapper made the announcement during an interview with Aaron Akinyemi on BBC News Africa ahead of his Rapperholic concert in the United Kingdom on Friday, March 6.

When asked about upcoming music releases, Sarkodie disclosed that the gospel project is almost finished after several years of work.

“This year, I have a gospel album. We are like less than 90% there, you know, so that album and a couple of singles here and there that I’ll be dropping,” he said.

According to reports, the rapper has been working on the gospel album for more than eight years, making it one of the most anticipated projects in his career.

The announcement has sparked excitement among fans who have long been curious about the project, especially given Sarkodie’s reputation for blending deep messages with his signature rap style.

During the interview, the rapper also addressed claims suggesting that he invented the popular Ghanaian dance style known as Azonto.

Sarkodie clarified that while he played a major role in promoting the dance globally, he was not the originator of the movement.

“I did not invent the Azonto dance, that is not true,” he said.

“I’m definitely part of the people who made Azonto what it is worldwide. It was something already in the Ga community that was happening. The dance was already there,” he explained.

Azonto became one of Ghana’s biggest cultural exports during the early 2010s, gaining international recognition through music, dance and social media.

The genre and its dance style helped introduce Ghanaian music to wider audiences around the world.

Meanwhile, Sarkodie thrilled fans with an energetic performance during his Rapperholic concert, continuing the tradition of one of Ghana’s most celebrated music events.

However, it was his revelation about the gospel album that generated the biggest excitement among fans.

With nearly a decade of work invested into the project, expectations are high that the album could mark a unique and significant chapter in Sarkodie’s musical legacy.
