Yaw Dabo Pursues GH¢1 Million Defamation Case Against Oboy Siki

Ghanaian comic actor and football administrator Yaw Dabo has filed a GH¢1 million defamation suit against fellow entertainer Oboy Siki at the Adum division of the Kumasi High Court.

The legal action stems from a series of remarks allegedly made by Oboy Siki regarding Mr Dabo’s private life and his role in football management. According to court filings, the statements have caused significant harm to Yaw Dabo’s reputation and public image.

Documents before the court reference claims that Oboy Siki allegedly suggested that Yaw Dabo is incapable of fathering a child. He is also accused of portraying the actor as selfish and “not man enough” to marry. In addition, the suit reportedly cites comments questioning Mr Dabo’s competence and credibility as a football administrator.

When the matter was called before the Kumasi High Court on 23 February 2026, counsel for Mr Dabo, Lawyer Diana, addressed the court and members of the press on the progress of the case. She explained that after the writ of summons was duly served on the defendants, they failed to enter an appearance or submit a statement of defence within the required time.

“A defamation action is not about imprisonment or punishment. When we served them with the writ of summons, they did not enter an appearance. They did not notify the court that they had been served, nor did they file their defence,” she stated.

Following consultations, Lawyer Diana indicated that her client was determined to pursue the claim, prompting the filing of an application for the court to proceed in the absence of a response from the defendants.

However, at the most recent hearing, the application was withdrawn after discussions about a possible out-of-court settlement. According to Lawyer Diana, counsel for the defendant and representatives of GHPage proposed that the matter be resolved amicably.

“Today, when we appeared before the court, we withdrew the application we had filed to move the case forward. Counsel for the defendant and for GHPage proposed that the matter be resolved amicably, so we agreed to withdraw the application. The court has granted that request,” she said.

She further noted that both parties would engage in negotiations ahead of the next court date. The outcome of those discussions, she explained, would determine the direction of the case moving forward.

“We shall return to court, but we are allowing them some time. Whatever proposal they present, and whatever decision Yaw Dabo ultimately takes, will guide our position when we next appear before the court,” she added.

The case has attracted significant attention within Ghana’s entertainment industry, as it highlights the growing number of public figures seeking legal redress over alleged defamatory remarks. While proceedings have been temporarily halted, the possibility of a negotiated settlement remains open as both sides prepare for the next stage of the legal process.
