MUSIGA Pledges Support for Yaw Sarpong’s Funeral

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has assured the family of late gospel icon Yaw Sarpong of its commitment to securing a dignified and memorable funeral in his honour.

The pledge was made on 19 February 2026 during the musician’s one-week observance, where representatives of the union addressed mourners and outlined plans to seek state support for the final rites of the veteran performer.

According to MUSIGA representatives, the union acted swiftly following news of Yaw Sarpong’s passing. They revealed that leadership had already initiated discussions with key government officials to formally notify them of the development and request assistance.

“When our brother passed, we made several visits. We approached the government to inform them of the sad development,” a representative stated during the gathering.

The union further disclosed that it intends to escalate its engagement by visiting the Flagstaff House to meet with the Chief of Staff and the President. The aim, they explained, is to secure additional support that would help ensure the late gospel legend receives a befitting farewell.

“We are planning to visit the Flagstaff House to meet the Chief of Staff and the President, so that any support they can offer towards Yaw Sarpong’s funeral will help ensure he receives a truly memorable farewell,” the representative added.

As part of its immediate intervention, MUSIGA also presented a financial donation to the bereaved family to assist with funeral preparations.

“We are donating GH¢500 to the family to support the funeral preparations. When the time comes, MUSIGA will stand firmly behind them to ensure our brother is given a befitting burial,” the union affirmed.

The gesture, though symbolic, reflects the solidarity within Ghana’s music fraternity and the high regard in which Yaw Sarpong was held.

Yaw Sarpong’s passing has deeply affected the Christian community and the broader music industry. Widely celebrated for his contributions to Ghanaian gospel music, he was admired not only for his timeless songs but also for his mentorship and spiritual influence.

The union’s commitment highlights the importance of recognising and honouring veteran musicians who have shaped Ghana’s cultural and spiritual landscape.

As preparations continue for the final funeral rites, MUSIGA’s assurance of support — both financial and institutional — signals a collective effort to celebrate the life and legacy of a gospel pioneer whose impact continues to resonate across generations.
