Showboy Arrested After Video of Alleged Resistance to Police Goes Viral

Ghanaian musician Sam Sarfo Junior, popularly known as Showboy, has been taken into police custody following the circulation of multiple videos on social media that allegedly show him resisting arrest by officers of the Ghana Police Service.

Footage that has since gone viral captures the outspoken artiste in handcuffs, visibly distressed, and engaged in a tense exchange with several police officers. Throughout the encounter, Showboy repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, at one point stating that what was happening was “so wrong.”

The video quickly attracted widespread public attention, reigniting debates around celebrity conduct, police procedures, and mental health considerations during arrests.

In the footage, a voice believed to be speaking from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters is heard instructing officers to proceed with the detention. A female officer who identified herself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was also heard calmly addressing the musician as officers attempted to manage the situation.

At several points during the arrest, Showboy requested water and asked to be allowed to contact his doctor. He claimed that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment and insisted on speaking with his psychiatrist, citing concerns about his mental health. Officers at the scene appeared composed and made visible efforts to de-escalate the situation, responding in a measured manner despite the heightened tension.

The arrest is believed to be connected to an earlier confrontation at Showboy’s residence, which was also recorded and shared online. In that previous incident, individuals believed to be CID officers attempted to apprehend the musician while he was livestreaming on TikTok. The encounter quickly escalated, with Showboy appearing visibly agitated as he challenged the officers and questioned the legality of their actions.

During the livestreamed confrontation, Showboy argued that the officers had failed to present the appropriate legal documentation to justify his arrest. He firmly refused to accompany them, repeatedly telling both the officers and his online audience that he could not be lawfully arrested without proper authorisation. The incident sparked mixed reactions online, with some users supporting the artiste’s stance, while others criticised his conduct.

As of the time of reporting, the Ghana Police Service has not officially disclosed the specific reasons for Showboy’s arrest or the charges, if any, being brought against him. The lack of an official statement has further fuelled speculation and intense discussion across social media platforms.

Showboy, known for his controversial public persona and frequent online outbursts, has previously made headlines for clashes with fellow artistes and outspoken commentary on the Ghanaian entertainment industry. His latest encounter with law enforcement has once again placed him at the centre of national conversation.

The public now awaits an official update from the Ghana Police Service to clarify the circumstances surrounding the arrest and determine the next steps in the matter.
