Kwaku Manu Opens Up on Years of Support for Okomfour Kwadee’s Mental Health Journey

Actor and businessman Kwaku Manu has opened up about the behind-the-scenes efforts he and others have made over the years to support hiplife legend Okomfour Kwadee, who has long battled mental health challenges.

His revelations have shed new light on the quiet sacrifices and sustained care that have helped keep the artiste afloat during some of the most difficult periods of his life.

Speaking in an interview with ZionFelix on Tuesday, January 13, Kwaku Manu explained that Kwadee’s support system dates back several years and has largely revolved around a woman named Abena Manu, who runs a rehabilitation centre where the musician previously received treatment. According to him, there was a time when Kwadee disappeared from public view, sparking concern and speculation. Unknown to many, the artiste was actually undergoing rehabilitation under Abena Manu’s care.

Kwaku Manu said that the period of treatment played a critical role in Kwadee’s eventual return to the music scene at the time. However, after the comeback, the musician suffered a relapse, prompting renewed concern among those close to him. Despite earlier challenges and incidents that reportedly caused embarrassment, Abena Manu continued to show compassion and concern for Kwadee’s wellbeing.

The actor revealed that although Abena Manu was initially hesitant to get involved again due to past experiences, her genuine care for the artiste eventually led her to soften her stance. Elders later stepped in to mediate and support efforts that resulted in Kwadee’s return to the rehabilitation centre for further care and monitoring.

Throughout the process, Kwaku Manu said his main contribution was financial support. He explained that he consistently sent money to cover Kwadee’s basic needs, including food and other essentials. For him, ensuring that the artiste was not hungry or neglected brought a deep sense of personal fulfilment.

“At the end of each month, I would send some money to the woman so she could buy food and essentials for Kwadee, and that alone made me feel fulfilled,” he stated.

As discussions continued, it became clear that Kwadee needed a more stable living arrangement. Kwaku Manu disclosed that Abena Manu advised that the musician should have his own place, preferably close to the rehabilitation centre, to allow easy access to treatment while encouraging social interaction within the community to keep his mind active.

In response, the actor provided GH¢20,000 to secure accommodation for Kwadee. He added that when it came time to furnish the house, additional support began to flow in from other well-meaning individuals.

Kwadee has since taken steps toward rebuilding his life and career. He recently secured a performance in Kumasi and also appeared at singer Sista Afia’s 10-year anniversary celebration in the music industry on January 3, 2026, which helped him raise additional funds. Kwaku Manu also revealed that the CEO of Joy Daddy contributed financially to support the artiste.

The disclosures have reignited important conversations about mental health, long-term care, and the need for sustained, compassionate support for creatives facing personal struggles, highlighting that recovery is often a collective effort rather than a one-time intervention.
