Black Stars Rise to 75th in Latest FIFA World Ranking

Ghana’s Black Stars have made a slight improvement in the latest FIFA World Ranking, moving up one place from 76th to 75th globally. The development follows the team’s recent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers during the September 2025 international window.

Otto Addo’s side played two key matches, starting with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Chad. Despite dominating possession, the Black Stars failed to convert chances into victory, leaving fans disappointed.

However, the team redeemed themselves days later with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Eagles of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium, a result that kept Ghana at the top of Group I in the qualifiers.

The victory over Mali proved crucial in boosting Ghana’s global ranking points, though it was not enough to improve their standing on the African continent. Ghana remains 14th in Africa, with Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, and Egypt continuing to dominate the top spots.

Historically, the Black Stars’ best-ever FIFA ranking came in February 2008, when they were ranked 14th globally following an impressive Africa Cup of Nations campaign on home soil. The current position of 75th highlights the work still ahead for Otto Addo and his squad if they are to restore Ghana’s status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.

Coach Addo has expressed confidence that consistent performances in upcoming qualifiers will further improve Ghana’s ranking. With crucial fixtures lined up before the end of the year, the Black Stars will be aiming not only to secure World Cup qualification but also to re-establish themselves as a formidable force both in Africa and on the world stage.

Beyond the rankings, analysts believe the Black Stars must focus on consistency, squad depth, and player development to climb higher.

Ghana boasts a rich pool of talent, with several players excelling in top European leagues, but translating individual brilliance into team success has been a challenge in recent years.

Pundits have also highlighted the importance of improving tactical discipline and finishing, areas that cost the team valuable points in past qualifiers.

Fans remain hopeful that the blend of young talents and experienced players under Otto Addo’s leadership will mark the beginning of a steady rise back to global football prominence.
