Shatta Wale Detained by EOCO Over Lamborghini Tax Inquiry

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following an inquiry into the tax obligations of his recently acquired yellow Lamborghini.

The high-profile case has sparked widespread public interest, raising questions about tax compliance, celebrity lifestyles, and the growing scrutiny of financial transactions in the entertainment industry.

In an official statement issued on Facebook by Shatta Wale’s media relations officer, Samuel Atuobi Baah, also known as Sammy Flex, management confirmed that the musician voluntarily appeared before EOCO to assist with investigations. He was accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, as part of efforts to provide clarity on the matter.

“The management of dancehall artist Shatta Wale (Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr.) is issuing this statement following his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today. This follows an inquiry related to tax obligations of a yellow Lamborghini vehicle. Mr. Mensah presented himself voluntarily at the EOCO offices this afternoon along with his lawyer to assist with investigations,” the statement read.

Management further reassured fans and the general public, urging calm and patience as the case unfolds. “We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter. They are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity. We urge the SM Family and all well-wishers to remain calm and avoid any speculation. We have the utmost confidence in the judicial process.”

The management also indicated that they would return to EOCO offices the following morning for further discussions and promised to update the public as developments progress.

According to sources, Shatta Wale’s detention is linked not only to tax-related issues surrounding his luxury Lamborghini but also to broader investigations into alleged money laundering, possession of proceeds of crime, tax fraud, and tax evasion. While no official charges have been confirmed, the inquiry highlights the increasing attention being placed on celebrity wealth and financial accountability in Ghana.

Shatta Wale, known for his energetic performances and controversial personality, has often dominated headlines with both his music and personal life. The incident adds to the list of high-profile legal and public controversies involving the award-winning musician. For many, the case underscores the importance of transparency in financial dealings, particularly for public figures whose actions influence their fan base and society at large.

The development has drawn mixed reactions online. While some fans have expressed disappointment and concern, others have rallied behind Shatta Wale, echoing his management’s call for calm and trust in the legal process. The SM Family, his loyal fanbase, continues to trend on social media platforms in solidarity with the artiste.

As the investigation continues, attention remains firmly fixed on EOCO’s next steps and whether formal charges will be brought against the dancehall star. Regardless of the outcome, the case is likely to spark ongoing debate about tax compliance, accountability, and the financial conduct of celebrities in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
