President Mahama Launches ‘Adwumawura’ to Empower 10,000 Youth

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the “Adwumawura” initiative, a flagship youth-focused entrepreneurship programme aimed at cultivating and empowering 10,000 young Ghanaian entrepreneurs annually.

The announcement was made in Accra on Monday, April 28, as part of his broader strategy to drive economic transformation under the proposed 24-hour economy.

The initiative complements the recently introduced One Million Coders Programme and is designed to address unemployment and promote inclusive economic growth through entrepreneurship.

“I want to assure you that my government will continue to walk with you. My government wants to invest in your future. I give you every reason to be proud of your homeland, Ghana,” President Mahama said at the launch.

Adwumawura will support both new and existing businesses. Through a nationwide selection process, applicants will undergo business incubation, training, and acceleration, regardless of formal educational qualifications. The only requirement is Ghanaian citizenship.

“Those who can apply are not only those who want to establish new businesses, but also those with ongoing ventures who can benefit from the programme,” President Mahama explained.

The initiative is deeply rooted in the government’s inclusivity and equity agenda. Sixty percent of beneficiaries will be drawn from women and girls, persons with disabilities, unemployed and underemployed youth, out-of-school youth, individuals from rural and mining communities, youth in conflict-affected areas, and other marginalised populations.

Participants will receive extensive support including business development training, access to funding, mentorship, technological tools, equipment, market access, and 367 days of business advisory services.

President Mahama confirmed that Adwumawura is fully funded under the 2025 national budget. However, he appealed to international partners to complement the programme through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) with additional resources, expertise, and logistics.

To further enhance visibility and market access, the programme will include an annual Adwumawura Trade Fair and Exhibition, providing a platform for beneficiaries to showcase their products, innovations, and services.

“Let your dreams take flight. Let your innovations find expression. The future is not something we wait upon. It is something we build together and it starts from today,” President Mahama urged the youth, reinforcing the transformative vision behind the programme.

Adwumawura represents a key pillar of President Mahama’s agenda to create a sustainable, inclusive economy powered by entrepreneurship, innovation, and opportunity for all.
