President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan as the new Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday, March 23, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson for the President and Minister for Government Communications.
Brigadier General Annan, a highly regarded and seasoned officer of the Ghana Army, will now take on the critical responsibility of leading the Customs Division as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the economy. His appointment comes at a time when there is a growing focus on revenue generation, and the President is keen to ensure that the GRA plays a pivotal role in meeting national fiscal targets.

As the new Commissioner, Brig. Gen. Annan is tasked with overseeing the Customs Division’s operations, ensuring efficient and effective revenue collection, and playing a significant role in achieving the revenue targets outlined by the government. His experience in security and administration, honed during his tenure as the Presidential Security Coordinator, positions him well to take on this strategic role. Brig. Gen. Annan brings with him a wealth of expertise in leadership and organizational management, which will be crucial in modernizing and resetting the operations of the Customs Division.
In the statement, President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Commissioner, Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo, for his years of dedicated service to the Customs Division and the nation. The President acknowledged the contributions of Brig. Gen. Ayorrogo in managing the division and thanked him for his commitment and hard work during his tenure. The transition comes at a time when the government is focused on improving revenue generation mechanisms and tackling the broader challenges facing the national economy.

Brigadier General Annan’s appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Customs Division and its approach to revenue collection, enforcement, and compliance. The Customs Division is a critical arm of the GRA, responsible for the collection of duties and taxes on imported goods, and is central to Ghana’s ability to meet its financial obligations.
As the new Commissioner, Brig. Gen. Annan’s leadership will be under close scrutiny, with expectations high for improved performance and a greater contribution to the country’s economic stability. His experience in security, coupled with his leadership skills, is expected to usher in a new era of efficiency and accountability within the Customs Division.
