Glenn Hoddle: Kudus Can Be a Major Asset for Spurs with Key Improvement

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle has expressed optimism about Mohammed Kudus’s potential to become a key player for Spurs, provided he adds one crucial element to his game — keeping his head up while dribbling.

Speaking on TNT Sports during the 2025 UEFA Super Cup in Italy on Wednesday night, Hoddle made the comments after Tottenham surrendered a 2-0 lead against Paris Saint-Germain, eventually losing on penalties.

Kudus, 25, was a consistent threat for PSG’s defence until his substitution in the 79th minute. Spurs appeared in control, but two late PSG goals in the 85th and 94th minutes forced a penalty shootout, where the French champions triumphed.

Despite the defeat, Kudus stood out statistically — creating the most chances (3) and completing the most dribbles (2) of any player on the pitch.

“He’s got such good talent, such quick feet, and you can see his qualities there. The added ingredient for him as a player is consistency,” Hoddle noted.

“A lot of my West Ham fans — and I have quite a lot — have said to me, ‘Thank you for taking him, Glenn.’ The first year, I thought he was excellent. The second year, they’re telling me he didn’t do so well. But he looks like he’s got a lot of potential, I’ve got to say.

“Sometimes, I look at dribblers and I like what they do, but can they dribble and play with their head up? That is the key for me. Can he also play with his head up? That’s the next progression for him. And I think if he does, he could be a real asset for Tottenham.”

Kudus joined Tottenham from West Ham United in the summer for a reported €63.8 million after two seasons at the London Stadium. His arrival was seen as a statement signing by Spurs, who are aiming to compete on multiple fronts this season under their new management.

The Ghanaian international’s blend of speed, technical ability, and creativity has already made him a fan favourite. However, Hoddle’s comments underline the expectation that Kudus must further refine his decision-making in the final third to reach his full potential.

As Tottenham regroup from the Super Cup disappointment, fans will be eager to see if Kudus can quickly adapt and deliver the consistent match-winning performances Hoddle believes he is capable of.
