The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the dismissal of Otto Addo as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
The decision comes in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing performances in their recent pre–World Cup international friendlies, where the team suffered defeats against Austria and Germany in March.

In a statement confirming the development, the Ghana FA stated that it has “parted ways” with Addo with immediate effect, bringing an end to his tenure as head coach.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the statement read.
The Association also expressed appreciation for Addo’s contributions during his time in charge, acknowledging his efforts in guiding the team through a crucial phase of its development.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement added.
Addo, who previously served as an assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund, had been under mounting pressure following a series of inconsistent results, including Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the recent heavy defeat to Austria.
His departure marks yet another change in the Black Stars’ technical setup as the team continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana FA indicated that it will soon outline a new technical direction for the national team, with an announcement on a replacement expected in the coming days.
With the World Cup fast approaching, attention will now turn to who takes over the role and how quickly stability can be restored within the squad as Ghana aims to make a strong impact on the global stage.

The decision is also likely to spark renewed debate among fans and pundits about long-term planning and consistency in the national team setup.
Frequent coaching changes in recent years have raised concerns about continuity, player development, and tactical identity.
As Ghana prepares for one of the biggest tournaments in world football, the next appointment will be crucial not only for short-term results but also for building a sustainable future.
The incoming coach will be expected to quickly assess the squad, restore confidence, and implement a clear playing philosophy capable of competing at the highest level.
