The detention of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has sparked a public demonstration as scores of his supporters gathered at the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters in Accra to demand his release.
On the morning of Thursday, August 21, 2025, dozens of fans—mostly dressed in black and red attire—flocked to the premises of EOCO, chanting, wailing, and calling for the authorities to free their idol.

The crowd, largely made up of loyal members of the Shatta Movement (SM Family), created a charged atmosphere as they waved placards and sang in solidarity with the dancehall star.
The protest comes in the wake of Shatta Wale’s continued detention after he failed to meet bail conditions imposed by EOCO on Wednesday. The artiste was granted bail set at GHC 10 million with two sureties, following his voluntary appearance at EOCO offices earlier in the week in connection with a tax inquiry on his yellow Lamborghini and related business activities.
Shatta Wale’s media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, also known as Sammy Flex, confirmed that the artiste’s legal team is working around the clock to satisfy the bail requirements.
“Shatta Wale has been granted bail, but the conditions are very stringent. We are still in the process of fulfilling them. The legal team is doing everything possible to secure his release,” Flex assured in a video update.
He further appealed to supporters to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions, noting that the management remains confident in the judicial process.
The news of Shatta Wale’s detention has sparked widespread debate across Ghana. While many fans have expressed unwavering support for the musician, some commentators have pointed to the case as an important example of accountability and transparency in the entertainment industry.
On social media, hashtags such as #FreeShattaWale and #SM4Lyf continue to trend, reflecting the passionate backing of the SM Family, a fanbase known for its loyalty and strong defense of the artiste.

Shatta Wale was detained on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after voluntarily appearing before EOCO with his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to assist with investigations into alleged unpaid taxes on his luxury Lamborghini and the financial operations of his company.
EOCO subsequently granted him bail, but the tough conditions have so far prevented his immediate release. The case has attracted national attention, with commentators highlighting its potential implications for tax compliance and financial accountability in Ghana’s celebrity culture.
As negotiations continue, all eyes remain on whether Shatta Wale’s team will meet the bail requirements and secure his release in the coming days. Meanwhile, his supporters show no signs of backing down, with many vowing to keep up pressure on EOCO until the artiste walks free.
For now, Shatta Wale’s legal battle over the Lamborghini tax probe continues to dominate both headlines and public discourse, further cementing his reputation as one of Ghana’s most influential—and controversial—entertainers.
