The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the illegal possession and discharge of firearms at a funeral in Attakrom, a community near Bibiani. The arrests come after a viral video surfaced online showing several young men recklessly firing guns during the funeral procession held on March 14, 2025.
The disturbing footage drew public concern and prompted swift action from law enforcement. In the video, the individuals are seen brandishing and firing guns into the air, posing a major threat to public safety and violating Ghana’s firearms regulations.

Upon the video’s circulation, the Police Command quickly launched an investigation to track down those involved. According to a press release from DSP Michael Nkekesi, Head of the Police Public Affairs Unit for the Western North Region, the Police Intelligence Department, supported by the Formed Police Unit (FPU), apprehended the two suspects on Wednesday, April 2.
DSP Nkekesi confirmed that both suspects have confessed to participating in the incident. He further disclosed that the police have initiated a manhunt for the remaining individuals featured in the viral footage.
The police are calling on members of the public to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the other suspects still at large. DSP Nkekesi assured the public that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of communities across the Western North Region.
He emphasized that such reckless use of firearms will not be tolerated, and offenders will face the full rigour of the law.

This incident adds to the growing concern about the misuse of firearms at public gatherings, particularly funerals, where cultural practices sometimes clash with legal regulations. Authorities have reiterated that anyone found in possession of or discharging a firearm without proper authorization will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Ghana Police Service continues to urge communities to celebrate safely and report suspicious or dangerous activities to help maintain peace and order.
As investigations continue, the arrests send a strong message about the zero-tolerance policy toward illegal firearm usage and reinforce the need for collective vigilance.
