Malik Basintale Breaks Silence on Health, Resumes Duties at YEA

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has publicly addressed his health for the first time following several months of absence from official duties, putting to rest widespread speculation about his condition.

Basintale returned to work on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, where he spoke candidly about his health and reassured the public that he is well and fully capable of resuming his responsibilities. His comments come amid persistent rumours on social media suggesting that he had suffered a severe illness, including claims that he had experienced a stroke.

Speaking upon his return to the office, the YEA CEO reflected on the vulnerability of human life and the inevitability of illness. He emphasised that sickness is a natural part of the human experience and should not be sensationalised.

“I mean, we are back, to work, work. I keep seeing that we are all human beings and so long as I have flesh and blood running through my veins, at any point in time, anyone can fall sick. It’s part of nature,” Basintale said.

He further addressed rumours that his absence was linked to a life-threatening condition or even death, firmly dismissing such claims. According to him, discussions around sickness and mortality should be approached with humility, as no one is immune.

“When I hear people say, ‘Basintale is sick’ or ‘Basintale is dead,’ anybody can die. You can die, I can die. Death has got nothing to do with how mighty or how powerful you are. Only Almighty Allah determines when,” he stated.

Basintale was unequivocal in denying reports that he had suffered a stroke, describing the claims as false and misleading. He assured Ghanaians that he is in good health and has returned to work with renewed commitment.

His reappearance at the YEA headquarters was marked by visible engagement with staff, attendance at meetings, and participation in routine administrative activities. These actions were widely interpreted as a clear signal that he has fully resumed his role as head of the agency.

The Youth Employment Agency plays a critical role in addressing unemployment and supporting job creation initiatives for young people across Ghana. Basintale’s prolonged absence had therefore raised concerns among stakeholders, making his return and public reassurance particularly significant.

Observers note that his remarks have helped humanise leadership in public service, reminding citizens that government officials are not exempt from health challenges. At the same time, his firm denial of exaggerated rumours underscores the impact of misinformation in the digital age.

A video of Basintale’s address has since circulated online, drawing reactions from colleagues, supporters, and members of the public, many of whom expressed relief at his return and wished him continued good health.

With speculation now addressed and duties resumed, Malik Basintale’s focus is expected to return fully to advancing the YEA’s mandate and strengthening youth employment initiatives nationwide.
