Kumasi High Court Dismisses Injunction on Daddy Lumba’s Funeral

A Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application seeking to stop the burial and funeral arrangements of Ghana’s highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

The injunction was filed by Madam Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who identifies herself as the musician’s legal wife. Her application sought to prevent the head of the musician’s extended family and another woman, Ms. Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, from proceeding with funeral plans.

The case stemmed from an ongoing dispute over widowhood rights, funeral control, and the validity of multiple marriages allegedly linked to the late musician.

According to the court’s ruling, Madam Serwaa’s request lacked sufficient legal grounds to justify halting the funeral, paving the way for the family to continue with preparations.

The late Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, is set to be laid to rest on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. His funeral is expected to draw thousands of fans, colleagues, and dignitaries who wish to pay their final respects to the celebrated icon.

The court’s decision brings temporary clarity to what has become a highly publicized family conflict, involving competing claims between Akosua Serwaa Fosuh and Odo Broni, both of whom assert marital ties to the late musician.

While Madam Serwaa insists she remains the only legally recognized wife, the family of the deceased, led by Kofi Owusu Fosu, has maintained that all parties would be acknowledged in the final rites.

Legal analysts say the ruling could still be subject to appeal, but for now, the funeral arrangements are set to proceed as planned unless further legal action is taken.

The legendary musician, whose career spanned decades and produced timeless hits, remains a towering figure in Ghana’s music history. His death marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to unite and divide hearts in equal measure.
