Kennedy Agyapong Files Nomination for NPP Flagbearership Ahead of 2028 Elections

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The outspoken politician submitted his forms on Wednesday at the NPP headquarters in Accra, accompanied by party executives, close allies, and a massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

Hundreds of loyalists gathered outside the party office, waving placards and chanting slogans including “No Ken, No Vote!” as they rallied behind the maverick businessman-turned-politician.

Speaking to the jubilant crowd after filing his nomination, Agyapong declared his readiness to lead with vision and innovation.

“Some people have ideas. But I have bold ideas and creativity. We want somebody who can create businesses for the youth of this country,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong becomes the second prominent figure to officially enter the NPP’s leadership race. On Tuesday, former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, was the first aspirant to file his nomination, also drawing strong support from party faithful.

The contest to succeed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current flagbearer and Vice President, is expected to intensify as more aspirants declare their intentions in the coming days. Party officials confirmed that all necessary documentation from Kennedy Agyapong was duly submitted and verified.

The NPP has outlined a clear timeline for the flagbearer race, with the nomination window open from July 29 to August 28, 2025. The party’s presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026, where delegates will elect the candidate to lead the ruling party into the 2028 general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong, widely known for his blunt commentary, business acumen, and grassroots appeal, has long been viewed as a formidable contender in the NPP’s succession race. His campaign is expected to focus heavily on job creation, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment, themes he reiterated during his filing speech.

With both Kennedy Agyapong and Kwabena Agyepong officially in the race, the NPP flagbearership contest is already shaping up to be a fierce battle of personalities, ideas, and vision for the party’s future.
