John Dumelo has expressed strong support for a locally developed artificial intelligence-powered farming platform known as 3Farmate, pledging government backing to help scale the innovation and transform agricultural productivity in Ghana.
Speaking after engaging with the young Ghanaian developers behind the project, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture emphasised the urgent need for the country to embrace modern farming techniques powered by technology.
He noted that traditional methods, which rely heavily on manual labour such as the use of hoes and cutlasses, are no longer sufficient to meet the growing demands of food production.
According to him, efficiency remains a key challenge in Ghana’s agricultural sector, and integrating artificial intelligence and mechanisation is essential to improving output.
He pointed out that advanced countries have significantly improved their agricultural yields by adopting technology-driven systems, including automation and precision farming tools.
Dumelo described 3Farmate as a timely and innovative solution that aligns with Ghana’s broader agenda to modernise agriculture and attract more young people into the sector.
He praised the developers for their creativity and initiative, stating that such homegrown innovations deserve encouragement and institutional support.
The 3Farmate platform is designed to automate critical farming processes, including planting, irrigation, and crop monitoring.
By using AI to analyse data and optimise farming decisions, the system aims to reduce human effort while increasing efficiency and yields.
It also provides farmers with real-time insights into crop health, enabling early detection of potential issues such as pests, diseases, or water stress.
Dumelo assured that the government is ready to support the project, particularly in scaling production and making the technology accessible to farmers across the country.
He indicated that further discussions will be held with the developers to explore ways of refining the system, expanding its capabilities, and integrating it into national agricultural programmes.
He stressed that supporting such innovations is critical to Ghana’s long-term food security strategy, especially in the face of climate change and rising population demands.
