Hon. Blay Nyameke Armah Involvement in Sekondi’s Chieftaincy Dispute Politically Influenced?

In a recent television interview, Hon. Blay Nyameke Armah, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi constituency, addressed concerns regarding his involvement in the ongoing chieftaincy issues within the community. His message was one of peace, respect for tradition, and an unwavering commitment to the development of Sekondi.

“I will never do anything to tarnish the image of my traditional leadership. I am somebody who believes in tradition and will always respect them,” Hon. Armah stated firmly, emphasizing his deep-rooted respect for the customs and heritage of Sekondi.

He clarified his role as a Member of Parliament, noting that he neither possesses the right nor the authority to install a chief or influence who ascends to the throne. “As the Ghanaian Member of Parliament for Sekondi constituency, I understand I have no right and power to install a chief in Sekondi, and it is also not my duty to choose who becomes the chief,” he explained.

Hon. Armah highlighted that his involvement is purely as a mediator, striving to bridge divides and encourage dialogue among the factions. “As an MP, all I can do is to advocate and mediate, and that’s exactly what I am doing. I do not intend to cause any harm but use legitimate means,” he assured, underscoring his intent to foster reconciliation and unity.

His passion for resolving the chieftaincy dispute stems from his vision of collaboration between political and traditional leadership to drive development and instill discipline within the community. “I am very passionate about this chieftaincy issue because I am of the view that with a traditional chief, I, together with the chief, can work perfectly to transform Sekondi drastically and also bring some discipline. That is not to say without a chief, I can’t work,” he elaborated.

Hon. Armah recalled how, during his campaign, the people of Sekondi implored him to help de-escalate tensions and guide the community towards an amicable resolution. “During my campaign, the people of Sekondi called on me to do whatever I can to calm the factions down for them to stop the litigation and find an amicable solution that can open the way,” he said, expressing his dedication to honoring that call for peace.

In closing, he reiterated his stance on promoting harmony and development within the constituency. “I am for peace, not for war,” Hon. Armah declared, signaling his steadfast commitment to serving as a beacon of unity and progress for the people of Sekondi.

His words serve as a reminder that leadership is not only about authority but about service, humility, and the relentless pursuit of collective well-being — values that Hon. Blay Nyameke Armah continues to embody as he works tirelessly for the betterment of Sekondi.
