Defence Ministry Clarifies Tema Crash Aircraft Not Owned by Ghana Military

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has clarified that the microlight aircraft involved in Monday’s fatal crash in Tema Community One does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces.

The clarification came in a Facebook post shared late Monday afternoon following widespread speculation about the ownership of the aircraft after the tragic incident.

“We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon,” the Deputy Minister wrote in the post.

“We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he added.

The crash occurred earlier on Monday and resulted in the deaths of two individuals who were on board the aircraft. The incident sparked concern among residents in the area and raised questions about whether the aircraft belonged to the military.

However, Mr Genfi’s statement confirms that the aircraft was privately operated and had no connection to the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Deputy Minister also used the opportunity to express sympathy to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident.

“We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” he stated.

Earlier, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that the aircraft involved in the accident was a microlight plane with the registration number 9G-ADV.

According to the aviation authority, the aircraft had been travelling from Ho to Accra when it crashed in the Tema area.

Both occupants of the aircraft were confirmed dead following the crash.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene after the aircraft went down, with personnel working to manage the aftermath of the accident and secure the crash site.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Officials say aviation experts will examine the wreckage and review other relevant information, including the aircraft’s flight path and operational history.

Authorities have assured the public that further details will be made available once the investigation progresses.

The tragic incident has drawn attention to aviation safety and the regulation of privately operated aircraft within the country, as officials work to establish what may have led to the fatal crash.
