Deeper Life Pastor Crushed to Death by Water Tank in Amantin

A tragic incident at Amantin in the Mpohor Fiase Municipality of the Western Region has left the local community in shock after a pastor of the Deeper Life Church was killed in a freak accident involving a water tank.

The deceased, identified as Pastor James Tawiah, lost his life instantly on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, when a 350-liter water storage tank collapsed onto his vehicle.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Emmanuel Ndur, Assembly Member for Manso, explained that Pastor Tawiah was on his way to minister to a congregation in Manso. While driving uphill, his vehicle suddenly stalled.

As the car began to roll backward, it rammed into a structure supporting the water tank. In his attempt to control the vehicle, the pastor mistakenly left the gear in reverse, which caused the car to accelerate backward at high speed.

The vehicle struck the base of the tank stand with significant force, dislodging the structure. The massive 350-liter tank then toppled over, crashing directly onto the car. The impact was so severe that Pastor Tawiah died instantly.

The tragic news has thrown the Amantin and Manso communities into mourning. Residents described Pastor Tawiah as a dedicated man of God, well-respected for his service to the church and his spiritual guidance.

Witnesses at the scene said the accident was “like something out of a nightmare,” leaving many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

“Pastor Tawiah was loved by everyone. He was on his way to do God’s work when this unfortunate thing happened. We are all devastated,” one resident said.

Following the incident, Pastor Tawiah’s body was transported to the Tarkwa Mortuary. The police have since launched an investigation to establish the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Authorities are expected to assess whether the water tank structure was stable and whether the accident could have been prevented.

The accident has sparked broader concerns about road safety and the structural integrity of makeshift tank stands in communities. Experts say poorly constructed tank supports can become hazardous, particularly when placed close to roads or residential areas.

Residents are calling on local authorities to enforce safety inspections on such installations to avoid future tragedies.

Pastor Tawiah had served with the Deeper Life Church for years and was known for his commitment to evangelism and community service. His sudden passing leaves a deep void not only in his family but also in the congregation he faithfully led.

Church members and community leaders are expected to hold a memorial service in his honor. Tributes have already begun pouring in from fellow pastors and residents who described him as “a humble servant of God with a heart for people.”

The death of Pastor James Tawiah is a painful reminder of life’s uncertainties and the importance of ensuring safety measures both on the road and within communities. As investigations continue, many hope that lessons will be drawn from this tragedy to prevent similar incidents in the future.

For now, the Amantin and Manso communities mourn the sudden loss of a spiritual leader whose life was cut short in the most unexpected way.
