Daniel Owusu Koranteng Never Fled—Legal Counsel Dismisses Police Claims in Ahmed Suale Murder Case

Kofi Essel, the legal counsel representing Daniel Owusu Koranteng, has firmly dismissed allegations that his client was evading law enforcement. Koranteng, a former associate of the late investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, has been charged with murder in connection with Suale’s tragic death.

Authorities claim that Koranteng was in the vicinity of Suale’s residence in Madina on the night of the shooting and later traveled to Amasaman around 11 p.m. Following the incident, police reports suggest he ignored multiple invitations for questioning and eventually traveled to the United Kingdom in 2019. However, after ongoing surveillance, he was arrested upon his return to Ghana on March 15, 2025.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Essel strongly refuted these allegations, maintaining that Koranteng never fled the country. According to him, Koranteng has been actively involved in investigative journalism within Ghana for years, exposing illicit activities and contributing to the arrests of individuals engaged in selling unwholesome food and drugs.

“He has been in this country not just in 2025. He has been conducting undercover investigations, publishing his findings, and even assisting in the apprehension of criminals,” Essel stated.

The lawyer also rejected claims that his client was untraceable, asserting that Koranteng had always been available and actively working. “If they claim they have been looking for him and he was unreachable, I do not understand where that claim comes from,” he added.

Koranteng’s arrest has reignited public interest in Ahmed Suale’s case, which remains one of Ghana’s most high-profile unsolved murders. While authorities continue their investigation, Essel insists that his client is being wrongly accused and remains committed to proving his innocence.
