The family of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has refuted claims made by media personality Akwasi Aboagye, alleging that both women associated with the musician — Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni — had agreed to jointly perform widow rites for the deceased.
In a statement dated October 26, 2025, and signed by Akosua Serwaa and Ernestina Fosuh, a sister of Daddy Lumba, the family described the claim as false and misleading.

According to the statement, a family meeting was held on October 23, 2025, during which Odo Broni was asked to provide proof of marriage to the late musician by presenting a valid marriage certificate. However, she was reportedly unable to produce such documentation.
The family elders, therefore, affirmed that the only legally recognized proof of marriage to the late musician remains the certificate held by Akosua Serwaa, which was issued in both Germany and Ghana.
The family further clarified that the issue of marital recognition is currently before the court, and as such, they have resolved to allow the judicial process to determine the matter rather than engaging in public debate or speculation.
In concluding the statement, the family urged the public and media outlets to exercise restraint and avoid spreading misinformation regarding their internal affairs. They expressed confidence that truth and justice will prevail through the appropriate legal channels.
The ongoing dispute has attracted significant public attention, given Daddy Lumba’s iconic status in Ghana’s music industry and his influence across generations.

Many fans have expressed concern over the controversy, urging both parties to handle the matter respectfully in memory of the late legend.
Entertainment analysts have also advised the media to verify claims before publication to avoid fueling unnecessary tension.
Meanwhile, family sources indicate that preparations for Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites are progressing steadily, pending the court’s decision on the marital dispute.
The family has assured fans that official updates will be released in due course.
