In a post shared on social media by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Dzata George, details have emerged regarding a major security operation that uncovered several suspected cybercrime centres operating within parts of the Greater Accra Region.
Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in collaboration with key national security and law enforcement agencies, identified multiple locations within East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba where organised cybercrime activities were allegedly being carried out. Intelligence gathered over a 48-hour period revealed that young men were being exploited and coerced by suspected kingpins to engage in various cyber-related crimes at these locations.

Acting on this CSA-led intelligence, a joint task force made up of operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT conducted coordinated operations on January 16 and 17, 2026. The raids targeted apartments believed to be serving as hubs for cybercrime activities.
During the operations, nine Nigerian nationals were arrested as principal suspects, while forty-four additional Nigerian nationals were rescued. Authorities believe the rescued individuals were victims of exploitation, having been compelled to participate in cybercrime activities under coercive conditions. The victims were found in their respective apartments actively operating laptop computers at the time of the raids.
Searches conducted at the various locations resulted in the retrieval of several electronic devices and weapons. Items seized included fifty-two assorted mobile phones, sixty-two laptop computers, and two pump-action guns, all believed to be linked to cyber fraud and related criminal activities.
In total, fifty-three Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations. East Legon Hills recorded five arrests, Afienya eleven, Kwabenya ten, Weija ten, and Tuba seventeen. All the arrested individuals have been duly profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations.
The Minister, in the social media post, cautioned foreign nationals invited to Ghana to verify claims made by fellow nationals who may attempt to lure them into the country under false pretences. He further noted that some individuals arrested in previous operations have been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with INTERPOL and successfully handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border, while others are currently facing prosecution before Ghanaian courts.
He emphasised that protecting Ghana’s cyber image internationally remains non-negotiable, commending the CSA and partner law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the country’s digital space.

The successful operation highlights Ghana’s growing resolve to clamp down on cybercrime and prevent the country from being used as a safe haven for digital criminal networks. It also reinforces the government’s commitment to international cooperation in combating cybercrime and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s digital economy.
