Cape Coast Court Jails 49-Year-Old Fisherman 10 Years for Defiling 13-Year-Old Girl

A Circuit Court in Cape Coast has sentenced 49-year-old fisherman Samuel Armah, popularly known as Kofi Nyan, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to defiling a 13-year-old girl at Mumford in the Central Region.

The Central Regional Police Command, in a press release dated October 29, 2025, confirmed that the offence occurred on October 16, 2025. According to the statement, the accused lured the minor into a ghetto in Mumford, where the unlawful act was recorded in a viral video that sparked public outrage.

The case was heard at Circuit Court Two in Cape Coast, presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quiba Nunoo. During proceedings, Armah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea, leading to an immediate 10-year jail sentence with hard labour.

Following the incident, the victim was taken to St. Luke Catholic Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The matter was later referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Central Region for further investigation.

At the DOVVSU, the convict admitted to the crime during interrogation and was subsequently transferred to Ankaful Prison to begin serving his sentence.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for four accomplices believed to have been involved in the incident. The suspects — identified as Agoogo, Edina, Kwesi Abbam, and Agya Ankoto — are currently on the run.

Authorities are appealing to residents of Mumford and its surrounding communities to provide information leading to their arrest to ensure that all those connected to the crime face justice.

The Central Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting minors and warned that anyone found guilty of sexual offences against children will face the full rigor of the law.

This case highlights the ongoing need for community vigilance and stronger enforcement of child protection laws in Ghana, as police and advocacy groups continue to combat the rising tide of sexual abuse cases involving minors.
