Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra.
The meeting, according to a statement from his office, was aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among the aspirants as the party prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In his opening remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the aspirants for honouring his invitation despite their busy campaign schedules, describing their participation as a demonstration of loyalty to the collective good of the NPP.
“Your presence this morning is a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party,” he said.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that he had worked closely with each of the aspirants during his tenure and continues to hold them in high regard. He praised their individual contributions to both the NPP and the nation, adding that their decision to contest for the flagbearer slot is a reflection of their dedication and competence.
The former President urged the aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner that highlights their visions for the party and for Ghana.
“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring that the party is fully energised and rallied to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” Akufo-Addo added.
In a show of solidarity, all five aspirants — Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Ken Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong — pledged to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere.
They assured the former President of their readiness, and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner of the primaries, stressing that party unity must remain paramount above personal ambitions.

The aspirants further emphasised the need to protect the image of the NPP during the campaign period and promised to uphold the spirit of togetherness even after the internal contest.
The meeting was attended by key party figures, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.
Former President Akufo-Addo concluded by encouraging the party’s leadership to ensure a transparent and credible process that will preserve unity and strengthen the NPP’s chances ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The breakfast meeting, seen as a strategic gesture of reconciliation and encouragement, comes at a time when the party is keen on avoiding internal divisions that could threaten its electoral fortunes. Political analysts have described the meeting as a significant move by Akufo-Addo to safeguard his party’s cohesion and maintain its momentum as the NPP eyes a historic third consecutive term in office.
