Abronye DC Granted GHS50,000 Bail After Arrest

Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC and serving as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted bail in the sum of GHS50,000 with one surety.

The bail ruling followed his arrest on September 8, 2025, over allegations of publishing false news and offensive conduct likely to disturb public peace, charges linked to remarks he allegedly made concerning the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

His legal team, led by Daniel Mantey Addo, welcomed the court’s decision, noting that Abronye’s health had deteriorated while in custody. According to them, the bail provides much-needed relief as efforts are underway to ensure his speedy release.

“The health of my client worsened during his detention. We are grateful the court has granted bail, and we are working to meet the conditions for his release,” lawyer Addo stated.

Abronye’s arrest and subsequent detention sparked significant public interest, with reactions divided along political lines. Supporters have described his bail as a step toward ensuring fairness, while critics have called for accountability in the ongoing legal process.

With his legal team preparing to secure his release, attention now shifts to how the case will unfold in the coming days. The outcome is expected to test the balance between freedom of speech and responsibility in political commentary within Ghana’s democratic space.
