A Plus Clears the Air: No Fallout with the NPP Despite Job Dispute

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has firmly refuted claims suggesting he has parted ways with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking on Channel One TV’s Upside Down Show with hosts Nana Tuffuor Boateng and Frema Adunyame on May 4, A Plus made it clear that there has been no fallout between him and the NPP.

“I have not fallen out with the NPP,” he stated emphatically, addressing ongoing speculation surrounding his political affiliations. The rumours, according to him, are baseless and fabricated. “These are all cooked-up stories,” he added.

The Ghanaian musician-turned-political commentator explained that some people have assumed he distanced himself from the ruling party because he didn’t receive certain favours or felt unappreciated. However, A Plus insists that this perception is completely unfounded.

He recounted how the NPP once offered him a government role, but things quickly soured when he continued to publicly voice criticism. According to A Plus, his outspokenness did not sit well with some party members. “I was given a job, but they expected me not to voice any criticisms. A month or two into the job, they let me go, claiming I was talking too much,” he revealed.

A Plus also highlighted that his brief stint in the role was marred by dissatisfaction over payment. “Even after working for two months, I only received one month’s salary,” he said, expressing disappointment in the way the situation was handled.

Despite this professional disagreement, A Plus remains adamant that he is still connected to the party ideologically and has not officially distanced himself. He maintains that his criticism stems from a desire to see improvements, not from personal vendettas or political betrayal.

The revelations offer a nuanced perspective on the complex relationship between public figures and political institutions in Ghana. A Plus’s experience highlights the tensions that can arise when individuals choose to speak out within systems that may expect loyalty over transparency.

As political discussions heat up in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, A Plus’s story serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by outspoken voices in partisan spaces. His clarification sets the record straight and repositions him as a critical yet committed voice in Ghana’s political landscape.
